The Lutheran School of Flushing and Bayside has the following programs:

3-K, Pre-K, Kindergarten to 8th Grade

What makes your school different?

We offer a Progressive Learning Environment.  Each student is challenged to do their best, encouraged to use their individual talents and gifts to investigate, solve problems, and apply the innovative skills of higher-order thinking.  Our curriculum reflects the Core Standards, but we develop individualized classroom instruction to benefit the students and encourage personal participation in one's learning.

Children are gifts of God entrusted into our care.  To fulfill God’s command to bring children up “in nurture of the Lord,” Christian education must satisfy the training of body, mind and soul.

Along with the major subjects, Religion, Music (we offer Suzuki Violin and General Music), Spanish, and Art are also incorporated into our schedules.  Our seasoned faculty works on ensuring the curriculum is fresh, challenging, and stimulating to help benefit the students.

Everyone is welcome at our school regardless of religious background.

Our students come from a variety of different backgrounds, cultures, and even countries (international students are also welcome), so diversity and understanding goes hand in hand in everyday life at our school.

We pride ourselves in finding the best high school for our 8th grade students.  Students from our school have continued their education at the following schools: St. Francis Prep, Cardozo (DaVinci Program), Molloy, St. Mary's, Holy Cross, Bayside, Francis Lewis, LaGuardia, Stuyvesant, and Bronx Science.

Do you follow the NY State Curriculum?

We use the NY State Curriculum as a guide, but develop individualized classroom instruction to benefit the students. We incorporate projects along with textbook knowledge, thus encouraging the students to expand their horizons, be involved with their education, and become independent thinkers. The development of the whole child is important, so Religion, Spanish, Music, Art, and Physical Education along with the standard subjects (ELA, Math, Social Studies, and Science) are incorporated into the daily schedule along with recess every day.

How long is the school year and school day?

We have a ten month (approximately 177 days) school year that is close to the NYC DOE's school calendar. The Kindergarten to 8th Grade classes begin the school year the Wednesday after Labor Day. The school day is from 8:15 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. to ensure that the students have enough time to enjoy all major subjects with at least one minor subject in the afternoon, at least 30 minutes of recess, and 30 minutes for lunch. The school doors open at 7:30 a.m. for arrival.

We understand that some parents need to drop-off or pick-up their child/children later than the normal school hours, so we do offer before care (7:00-7:30 a.m.) and after care (3:15-6:00 p.m.). Please inform the school if you will be in need of these services.

The Staff

Our staff has a strong commitment to serving the many constituents of our organization. But first and foremost, they focus their energies on those who take advantage of our programs and services; the students. The majority of our teachers are certified, been teaching for at least 20 years, open to two ways of teaching/learning, and dedicated to the Christian faith.

The School Board

Our board represents a cross-section of our community (from Redeemer Lutheran Church in Bayside and Lutheran Church of St. John in Flushing) and has a passion for our organization and those we serve. The members work hard to ensure long-term sustainability of the organization and oversee that the funds raised directly affect those in need

What is your tuition?

3-K and Pre-K classes are free.

Our monthly tuition for grades Kindergarten to 8th Grade ranges from $630 to $680 (including registration and other fees) regardless of your religious affiliation.  Fundraising (catalogue and candy sales) is done throughout the year, but it is done purely on a volunteer basis.  Scholarships are also available.  Contact the school office at (718) 225-5502 for more information.

Testimonials

  • My family is truly blessed to have found LSFB!  My husband and I knew the moment we walked into the school that this is a special place.  All of the teachers know both of my children and understand them as individuals.  My children describe LSFB as their "second home."

  • As a student in the public school system, wearing a white shirt weekly to assembly, saluting the flag, and giving honor to God and country was the norm.  Today, this practice is nonexistent in the public school system.  As a parent, it was important to me that my son have this same experience.  However, finances stood in the way of affording a private school education.  My prayers were answered through a scholarship given by LSFB.  With their help, my son is obtaining a high quality education.  Weekly chapel and daily prayer along with the other major/minor subjects ARE THE NORM in a supportive Christian environment.  They were able to meet our need and I know our family will be blessed for many generations to come.

  • Our family would like to thank LSFB for selecting us for the academic scholarship.  This scholarship has allowed our daughter the ability to get an amazing education that a will give her the jump-start needed to be successful in high school and college.  Our daughter has felt safe to ask questions and has been courageous to try new extracurricular activities, which has given her the confidence to take on new challenges.

  • I wish that I had brought my son to LSFB earlier. He has gained so much self confidence, understands the material being taught, gets right to work with homework when he gets home, and has more friends than ever since attending this school! Thank you, LSFB!
